Good Things Come to Those Who Wait: December Wanderlust

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait: December Wanderlust

“I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

I don’t know about you, but December is shaping up to be a busy month. Maybe it’s thanks to all the changes people are going through. Maybe it’s the revolutionary atmosphere. Maybe it’s because people are antsy about December 21st. Whatever it is, it seems like things are shifting, taking new shape and transforming. A theme I’m sure we’re going to see well into 2013.

It's Istanbul...not Constantinople.

It’s Istanbul…not Constantinople.

Tomorrow I’m on the move, heading to the lively and multi-cultural mosaic of Istanbul where I’ll attempt to squeeze multiple museums, mosques, restaurants and boutiques into as many 2-4 hour time blocks as possible. Because I’ll have work to attend to during my week-long sojourn I’m being quite choosy about where I want to spend my after-hours. Some of the things I’m going to try and fit in are:

  • Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.
  • Basilica Cistern
  • Istanbul Museum of Modern Art (they have a great portrait photo exhibition going on at the moment).
  • Pera Museum (open late on Fridays until the end of the year!).
  • Vintage and boutique [window] shopping in Nişantaşi and Beyoğlu (practicing restraint starts NOW).
  • Galata Tower.
  • Intolerant-friendly feasting thanks to random finds and maybe *fingers crossed* a delicious-sounding culinary walk.

How I break up a day of non-stop walking.

I’m skeptical I’ll be able to pack it all in, but we’ll see how it pans out. Even if it everything doesn’t come to fruition, rest assured that there will be plenty of posts on vegan/vegetarian-friendly places, dairy and gluten free options, as well as some intolerant ranting about fashion, art and cultural hot-spots thrown into the mix.

Walking the streets and loving every minute of it.

Walking the streets and loving every minute of it.

If there’s anything I haven’t listed that I MUST see/do in Istanbul, let me know!

Also coming up in December:

→ A trip to the Cairo camel market.

→ An Intolerants guest-post/rant featured on Travel Fashion Girl about – wait for it – Crocs. Yes, it seems I’ve crossed over to the dark side.

→  Young Egyptian jewelry designers and their new (fantastic) collection.

→ Degas, Van Gogh and Monet…in the heart of Cairo. Insha’allah.

→ The holiday season in Egypt.

→ A Brusselicious New Year.

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. Regardless of how busy it may be I look forward to the month ahead.

Yalla!

Happy reflecting, holidaying and travel planning to everyone!

Yum! I hope to find a dairy and (ideally) gluten-free version. If not…I’ll be making my own.
